a wee house by the lake

I have a love-hate relationship with the outdoors. Usually I feel as Ms. Lebowitz does:

“The outdoors is what you have to go through to get from the apartment into the taxi.” – Fran Lebowitz

Yet, I am smitten with the idea of a wee house in the country. Perhaps by a lake. The setting would also need to be mosquito-fee.

I can see myself on the deck — once the mosquito net is installed. One question: is there DSL in the hinterland?

  1. Did you ever listen to Siouxsie And the Banshees? They had a song titled, “Christine”.
    Here are the lyrics.

    Christine

She tries not to shatter, kaleidoscope style Personality changes behind her red smile Every new problem brings a stranger inside Helplessly forcing one more new disguise

    Christine-the strawberry girl
    Christine-banana split lady

Singing sweet savages lost in our world This big-eyed girl sees her faces unfurl Now she’s in purple
    Now she’s the turtle

    disintegrating

    Christine-the strawberry girl
    Christine-banana split lady
    22 faces…disintegrating.

  2. I do know that one! I never understood it however :-).

I like this one myself — the lyrics are actually rather distasteful (it’s KISS and I know it because I grew up in the headbanging part of Scarborough) — but I always liked the “Christine sixteen” part…(Actually if pressed, I will admit to still liking KISS a whole lot.

She’s got me dizzy, she sees me through to the end
She’s got me in her hands and there’s no use in pretending

    Christine sixteen, Christine sixteen

She drives me crazy, I want to give her all I’ve got
And she’s hot every day and night, there is no doubt about it

    Christine sixteen, Christine sixteen

“I don’t usually say things like this to girls
your age, but when I saw you
coming out of the school that day, that day
I knew, I knew, I’ve got to have
you, I’ve got to have you.”

She’s’ been around, but she’s young and clean
I’ve got to have her, can’t live without her, whoo no
    Christine sixteen, Christine sixteen

    Christine, Christine, sixteen, sixteen
    Christine, yeah, yeah
    So clean, Christine, sixteen, sixteen
    Christine, yeah, Christine, yeah, yeah
    Christine, Christine, sixteen, sixteen
    Christine, yeah, Christine, yeah, yeah
    Christine, Christine, sixteen, sixteen
    Christine, yeah, yeah, yeah, yeah
    Christine, Christine, sixteen, sixteen
    Christine, yeah, yeah, yeah
    Christine, Christine, sixteen, sixteen
    Christine, yeah, yeah, yeah
Christine, Christine, sixteen, sixteen, Christine, yeah, yeah
    Christine, Christine, sixteen, sixteen
    Christine, yeah, yeah, yeah

  3. If you ever find this mythical mosquito free by a lake zone — please let me know.

Instead of Siouxsie (BTW – I agree – WTF is that song about?) and KISS, here’s another Christine song…

    “Christine”

Christine, she tells me that she’s in love again
Christine, she says that she still loves me
She stands there calling my name in her boyfriend’s jacket in the rain
I guess she’s in love with the whole damn world
And the whole world loves her
    Won’t turn without her
    It has to have her
    I can’t live without her

    Just one moment with Christine
You know exactly what I mean
She stays a night and then she leaves
Just a little hope in between
    One more moment with Christine
    It’s like a lifetime where’ve I been
I want to live to the extreme
I need another taste of Christine
Oh, I need another taste, another taste of Christine

Christine, the touch of another human touch
There whispered breath falling on your skin
I don’t know where to begin
Well, I just arrived, now I’m locked in
And now I’m caught in your mixed up world
And the whole world loves you
    Won’t turn without you
    It has to have you
    I can’t live without you

    Just one moment with Christine
You know exactly what I mean
She stays a night and then she leaves
Just a little hope in between
    One more moment with Christine
    It’s like a lifetime where’ve I been
I want to live to the extreme
Won’t you tell me, who is Christine?
How many times will it take for me to learn?
Tell me, are we headed for nowhere?
    Christine
How many times will it take for me to learn?
Tell me, are we headed for nowhere?

And the whole world loves her…

    Just one moment with Christine
You know exactly what I mean
She stays a night and then she leaves
Just a little hope in between
    One more moment with Christine
    It’s like a lifetime where’ve I been
I want to live to the extreme
I need another taste of Christine

How many times does it take to learn?
How many times does it take to learn?
How many times does it take to learn?
How many times does it take to learn?
    Another taste of Christine…

  4. Oh, I love that song! It is the best Christine one ever!
I want to have at my birthday party (the big one that’s not for many years) an entire selection of Christine songs. A bit egocentric but hey it will be my special day.

Maybe I should rename my blog “Another Taste of Christine” or perhaps not…
